Ring in the New Year right: Dec. 31 celebrations planned across Cobb, beyond | News

Though there won’t be a city-sponsored celebration on Marietta Square Monday evening, there’s still a slate of activities planned across the county and beyond for Cobb residents looking to ring in the new year in style.

The Marietta Branding Project confirmed last month that its New Year’s Eve celebration, a staple on the Square the last three years, was canceled.

In the past, the city has brought Square-goers New Year’s Eve ice skating at Glover Park, live music, food trucks and the infamous “Dude Drop” of 2016. But all that’s off this year.

“Given the ghastly weather the last two years, it was decided early on we would not keep it in our plans for 2018,” said Stephanie Coston, the Branding Project’s director.

While Monday night’s weather is expected to be considerably warmer than it was last year, it might be best to pack a poncho since thunderstorms are forecast and The Weather Channel is calling for a 100 percent chance of rain.

That said, there are plenty of indoor celebrations families can enjoy while remaining warm and dry.

Below is a list of celebrations planned across Cobb and metro Atlanta:
