REPORT: Braves Will ‘Take it Easy’ With Dansby Swanson at Start of Spring Due to Rehab

Atlanta Braves shortstop Dansby Swanson missed the end of the season, including their playoff series against the Los Angeles Dodgers, due to a wrist injury that required surgery in the offseason.

Swanson isn’t technically expected to have any restrictions when Spring Training rolls around, but according to Mark Bowman of MLB.com, the Braves will “take it easy” with Swanson in the early going of camp.

Swanson and the Braves have good news to report as well, as the Atlanta shortstop began hitting off a tee this week.

The surgery Swanson had back in November was to remove a lose body in his left wrist. He is expected to be ready for Opening Day, but it’s a smart strategy to take it easy with him at the start of Spring Training. They want to be sure his wrist is strong and won’t be an ongoing issue once the regular season begins.

In 136 games last season, Swanson slashed .238/.304/.395 with 14 home runs and 59 RBI.

His offense improved compared to the previous season, but he’s still a below average hitter at this stage of his young career. However, Swanson is a Gold Glove-caliber shortstop, which is where he brings the bulk of his value.
