Atlanta Braves Should Sign Third Baseman Josh Donaldson

The Atlanta Braves could use another power hitter to slot into their lineup. Josh Donaldson could fit the Braves shortcomings perfectly, offering a power right-handed bat and good defense at third base.

Josh Donaldson to the Atlanta Braves is a fit that makes a lot of sense for Atlanta. It is a move they should certainly explore with questions remaining on their infield. Donaldson is coming off of a rough season and could be afforded an opportunity to bounce back on a short-term deal.

Josh hit .246 last season struggling to stay healthy. When he was fully healthy he would show flashes of the all-star player he had been.

A trade to the Indians seemed to help him, bumping up his average to .280 during his time with the team.

Donaldson will now be looking to land a deal to offer him a chance to bounce back. It seems unlikely a team will offer Donaldson a large contract coming off of a rough season. He must prove he can stay healthy and regain form before he is offered a big contract.

Atlanta should offer Donaldson a short-term deal. He would be a perfect fit for Atlanta and offer some stability in the lineup.

With questions at shortstop and third base, Atlanta can allow a platoon to give them much-needed depth.

When healthy Josh is a 30+ a year homerun hitter, a skill set Atlanta is greatly lacking in their current lineup.

Adding his power and defensive abilities make Atlanta a better team and gives them a veteran to help lead a very young and inexperienced roster.

Next: Time to Move on From Alford?

Atlanta has plenty of possible moves to make this off-season with a flexible roster and a very strong free agent class. Signing Donaldson would be a move that makes sense giving Atlanta a power hitter and a deeper roster in 2019.
