The Atlanta Braves are still quietly interviewing prospective pitching coaches. Meanwhile, the number of teams looking for a pitching coach increased on Thanksgiving Eve.
Atlanta Braves GM Alex Anthopoulos (on Sirius/XM so no link) revealed last week that the team was deep in an interview process.
Like every move he’s made since arriving, the interviews happened without notice and none of the interviewees names are known. Because it’s just a pitching coach, there aren’t really any rumors; good bad or indifferent.
About that time, Alan noted in the Chop that Dennis Lewallyn’s name came up as an internal prospect, but the beat writers had the sense an outsider would fill the position, and he favored Kyle Snyder (Rays).
Another option I find appealing appeared Wednesday when Jim Hickey told the Cubs he would not be back for personal reasons. I have no idea what those reasons may be, and Hickey didn’t say.
I hope there isn’t a serious within his family. If Hickey left because he felt it was time to go, and he’s looking for a job, I’m ready to bring him to Atlanta.
