The FanSided Mock Winter Meetings ended with a rush of final signings and trades. The Atlanta Braves day saw a setback or two but ended with success.
Today’s goal for the Atlanta Braves centered on finishing off the bench and the bullpen as part of our mock Winter Meetings; oh, I almost forgot… and getting a catcher.
The filled that gap with the Giants landing Greinke and $21M over three years from Arizona. Don’t cash the check boys, like everything here it’s fake.
The Nationals completed a simulated deal to acquire Jonathan Schoop from Milwaukee and in another mock move picked up a bunch of prospects from Texas for Tanner Roark and Michael Taylor. I’d go watch them play, but of course, it’s all a simulation.
The really interesting stuff for Atlanta Braves fans happened in the afternoon and early evening . . . and the very late evening.
The Atlanta Braves simulate adding Gerardo Parra
On Thursday the Atlanta Braves Sim-GM (yours truly) brought over a right-handed bench bat in Trey Mancini. On Friday, we/I got his left-handed counterpart as Gerardo Parra signed a fake contract for two years and $15 million. The contract immediately self-destructed because it never existed, but the simulation lives on.
Para adds left handed punch to the bench and while his .284/.342/.372/.714 overall line with isn’t impressive, against RHP he posted a more impressive .309/.369/.407/.776 line. In elevated leverage it improved to .322/.383/.432/.814.
Parra made 27 appearances as a pinch hitter. His .417/.481/.583/1.065 line shows he did pretty well. I don’t expect him to start many games: he’s not a good defender these days, but as a bench weapon and DH, he projects as extremely useful.
