A week of Realmuto and winter meetings

While the definitive piece outlining all of the Realmuto saga was done here, there has been plenty in the last week written on the team during the winter meetings!

Our own Alan Carpenter outlined the depth of the Atlanta Braves and J.T. Realmuto saga yesterday in the definitive piece on the topic, but there are plenty of great pieces that have come out around the Braves blogosphere this week!

While most were focused on the winter meetings and Realmuto, appleyaks over at Braves Reddit opened a very interesting discussion on the biggest “name” Braves prospects that didn’t pan out. At the same time, AtlSupreme had a great discussion about the favorite stuff to eat during a ball game.

Grant McAuley had a pair of tremendous pieces this week at Around the Big Leagues. First, he discussed how the Atlanta Braves shopping this winter could lead to some interesting decisions with some of the young players who are on the big league roster already. He then examined a list of 10 arms that the Atlanta Braves should pursue for bullpen help.

Kit Anderson at ATL All Day discusses whether it is time for the Atlanta Braves to trade for Yasiel Puig.

Over at Braves Journal, Rob Copenhaver adjusted Freddie Freeman‘s ranking on their site’s list of the 44 greatest Atlanta Braves, moving him up to #9.

Andy Harris of Outfield Fly Rule gives their weekly Hot Stove Report, covering the Rule 5 draft, Realmuto, the loss of Rio Ruiz, and some other news and notes.

Tommy Poe of Walk Off Walk had a pair of excellent pieces this week at his new site (worth bookmarking!). First, he looked at how the Atlanta Braves have approached free agency and if the team is changing their philosophy. Then, he looked at the Braves and Rangers and how they match up in a deal.

Our friends at Talking Chop had a tremendous pair of pieces among their writings this week. The incomparable Ivan the Great put together a piece looking at spending on relievers and whether it’s a wise idea to do so. Demetrius Bell wrapped up the winter meetings with a piece outlining that while the Atlanta Braves may have had a “slow” winter meetings, that may not have bearing on how busy or not busy the rest of the offseason will be in Atlanta.

Finally this week, Harrison Coburn of SportsTalkATL had a pair of pieces that were great reads. First, he explored how the San Diego Padres and Atlanta Braves match up in trade discussions. He followed that up with a wrap of the winter meetings, looking at the top remaining free agents on the market that could be of interest to the Braves.
